Japanese Speaking Pastor: Rev. In "Jin" Hyun
I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan as a third generation of Korean Japanese. I had enjoyed playing sports (baseball, Judo, Swimming) when I was in elementary school. When I got into the middle school, I started to play Rugby until the first year of high school. After our school won the "HANAZONO" (national high school Rugby tournament) , though I wasn't the one who played in the field, I lost my passion for playing Rugby. So I quit.
Since I had played some kind of sports all the time, I had no idea what to do during the summer break. So I joined "home-stay program" for four weeks in Bakersfield, CA. Since the experience was so great, especially the love I received from my host family was unforgettable, I decided to go to a college in the US. While I was a student at college of the Canyons in Santa Clarita where I live now, I was invited to attend one of the bible studies that Crossway church had. It was my first time that I heard the gospel in Japanese. And the refreshment after every bible study was so yummy, I kept attending it.
Long story short, I was led to join the "Shuyokai" (our conference summer retreat) in Santa Barbara where I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Then I got baptized when I was 19 years old. God gave me the "hope"that is in Christ and promise me the eternal life. Romans 5:5 says "and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."
After I was saved, I had desire to serve the Lord. But I didn't know what to do. At that time, God gave me this opportunity to share the gospel with my uncle who was suffering from liver cancer at the stage Four. He was thirty-five or six years old. Through the experience, I was convinced to serve Him in the way whatever He leads me. He gave me His word from Matthew 9: 36-37. "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;".
Then He opened the door for me to study at TBS (Tokyo Biblical seminary) in Japan. After graduating from TBS, I joined this conference (OMS holiness church of North America) in 2006 and was appointed to a church in Tuscon, Arizona. I had served there for five years and half and moved to San Fernando valley in the summer of 2011. I have been serving at Crossway church as Japanese speaking pastor since then.
I have a wife and three boys and one girl.
